Remembering a Brave Uncle…

KARL Jenkins has composed a new work in memory of his uncle who died fighting for his country during the Second World War.

Jenkins, was a baby when bomber pilot Alfryn Jenkins was killed over Berlin in March 1944.

Jenkins’ four-minute piece, For the Fallen: In Memoriam Alfryn Jenkins, will be premiered tomorrow at London’s Royal Albert Hall during the televised annual Festival of Remembrance.

It is set to the iconic poem by Laurence Binyon, which incorporates the Last Post, and features the vocals of international soprano Hayley Westenra as well as text read by Bernard Cribbins.

The piece is featured on the 10th anniversary re-release of Jenkins’ album The Armed Man.
